Store your seed: Coinplate Alpha
Are you an Alpha?
I discovered this product purely by chance. I had already heard of it, and had seen its review in Jameson Lopp's tests (I'll provide you with the link momentarily). I spoke with Adam (the owner), and we agreed: there would be a review of Coinplate's premier product, the Alpha.
The product surprised me, and I believe it's going to surprise you too. Today, we're discussing the Coinplate Alpha
Firstly, what does 'Alpha' signify? Often, when I come across a product's name, I like to delve into its meaning from the creator's perspective and the possible reasons for naming it 'Alpha'.
In the field of biology and ethology (the study of animal behavior), 'Alpha' denotes a dominant individual within a hierarchical social structure – an 'Alpha' signifies a leader.
In the domain of financial investments, 'Alpha' is a term employed to characterize an investment's risk-adjusted performance compared to a benchmark index or the broader market. A positive 'Alpha' indicates that the investment has performed better than expected.
In popular culture, 'Alpha' is also utilized to describe individuals exhibiting leadership or dominance traits.
Adam, what's the reasoning behind naming this product 'Alpha'? All of the reasons.
I was taken aback when the package arrived. It was incredibly bulky and heavy. Upon opening it, I found a black cardboard box containing a metal plate almost the size of my hand.
And it weighed a kilo. Actually, more than that - 1,100 grams.
The product consists of two plates, which are screwed together, with a rather hefty size.
This size, however, presents an advantage: it's easier to engrave, reducing the potential for error.
But, as expected, it comes with a disadvantage: its bulkiness.
The engraving system operates on an automatic punch basis - all you need to do is press it against the plate, and it will spring back, leaving an indent. It's simple, straightforward, and no additional tools are necessary.
Next, we align one plate against the other and use the two included screws to secure it. A wrench for tightening these screws is also provided.
Inside the package, we find security seals in the form of stickers, and a marker for making markings.
Do you know the purpose of the metal plate with the Ace of Spades ♠️ symbol?
I'll disclose that shortly.
Additionally, we notice two holes that can accommodate screws. While they're intended for attaching the plate to a wall or a piece of wooden furniture, these holes can also be used to attach additional security seals. The necessary screws are included, bringing the total number of holes to four.
The product exhibits substantial thickness. Now, let's delve into the specifications:
Material: 100% stainless steel AISI 304
Can endure temperatures of up to 1093º
Acid resistance: 12 hours
Hydraulic press test: Withstands 20 tons.
The construction of the product is solid and durable. Although it is marked on the outside, it's only a sticker, which means you can reduce its visibility if you choose. Its flat design assists with storage. To give you an idea of its size, it measures:
Weighs 1.14 kilos.
Now, prepare for a surprise. Here at Crypto 101, we've seen some very expensive products, with some surpassing $120, and even more. In the world of cryptocurrencies, secure storage often comes with a significant cost.
I must confess that when I first held the product, I had no idea of its price. I had to look it up on the website:
The price is 79€, plus approximately 9€ for shipping. If you want to buy more than one set, there's an option, with each pair of plates costing 55 euros. Plus, shipping is free if you purchase five sets (you could team up with four friends, and at that price, you're essentially getting a gift). Here's a video that you might find interesting:
To conclude, I'll link you to Lopp's stress test, where there was no loss of information. This much we know for sure.
What else does Coinplate offer?
Coinplate has additional products in its range.
Coinplate Grid operates on essentially the same system, but the method of marking changes. We input the word number based on its position in the BIP39 word list:
Then, there's Coinplate Punch, where we are given the freedom to engrave our word, without being confined to just letters or numbers as with the previous products:
As you can observe, all products are priced very competitively. With this last product, you also have the option to add a set of stamps or an electric engraver.

And now, does the reason behind the name 'Alpha' make sense to you? Well done, Adam:
This 'Alpha' is a leader.
This 'Alpha' is a wise investment. It's positively 'Alpha'.
This 'Alpha' exudes dominant traits.
Have a good day!!
Now, let me reveal what that small plate with the Ace of Spades ♠️ symbol is for.
